When they hear you are from Colorado. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's top 10 hit after performing with small folk music bands. The song was written and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the tune in the name of Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential the moment he heard it for the first time. After performing the song in Washington D.C. to a massive crowd, Denver released the song a couple of days afterward.
