John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions with his pop-folk songs, many of which were based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in affection with Colorado and then settled in Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fames' inaugural inductee was recognized by the honor in 2011. Denver is now the embodiment of Colorado for many people across the globe. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The song was written in collaboration with Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard earlier versions that it was going to be an instant hit.
